Life Outside the Tent

Eating solids has been a fun adventure.  Karis enjoys looking around while she eats.  Breastfeeding is starting to annoy her, because she is stuck under her "tent," unable to see all the excitement around her.

Here are some shots of Karis trying new things...

7 Months Old

Beautiful Baby at 7 Months

Time to get everyone caught up on the last 2 months.  Karis had her 6 month check up in January.  Here are her stats from 1 - 16 - 12:

Head Circumference: 16.5 inches - 25th percentile
Length: 26.25 inches - 75th percentile
Weight: 15 pounds - 25th percentile

The pediatrician was a little concerned about Karis's low weight, but he said introducing solids will help.  First, we tried butternut squash.  Karis ate from a spoon like she's been doing it for years!  We've also tried rice cereal, carrots, peas, peaches, pears, mangoes, applesauce, bananas, pumpkin, and avocado.  The bananas and applesauce stopped her up.  Poor little behind.  (Prune juice remedied the constipation.) Avocado was the only food that she spit out.

Karis also had a week of bad diaper rash at about 6 months 2 weeks.  Boudreaux's Natural Butt Paste alone wasn't doing the trick.  A friend recommended a "Sugar Cookie," butt paste with baby powder.  The sugar cookie, along with frequent baths, time without diaper, Desitin, and baby Auqufor healed those precious cheeks.
Happy Valentine's Day!
At the time of Karis's appointment, we thought we wouldn't see teeth for a while, because Karis didn't seem to be bothered by teething too much.  Wrong!  Now we have one tooth (bottom right) almost fully sprouted, and two others have appeared slightly through her gums.  It has been a painful process for Little One.  Orajel works for a few minutes, but children's Advil is (in the words of my friend, Adrian) "magic juice."

Karis continues to be a very active baby.  She likes to play on a mat surrounded by lots of toys.  She can sit all by herself for as long as she wants to!  Mommy and Daddy have to put her in the seated position.  Karis can also roll belly to back both right and left.  She can roll back to belly to the right only.  Karis puts her hands out in front of her, in the crawling position, rocks a little, then usually falls forward.  When she gets tired of playing on her mat, we move her to her activity table (thanks Poppy and Mae Mae!) where she can walk all the way around and play with various toys.  When Karis is tired of that, we move her to her high chair or go outside.  She rarely cries when she's outside.  I think the backyard is going to get lots of use in the future.
